We drove off the ferry in Haines, Alaska and headed to our RV Park. Since our scheduled arrival time was 3:30am we were unsure where we could park our RV until check-in time in the afternoon. So, we made a reservation for the night before and told the RV Park we would be arriving in the middle of the night. No problem they said and gave us a site assignment and told us to just pull in when we arrived. BUT as we drove the 5 miles from the ferry terminal to Haines we saw quite a number of pull offs that we could have spent a few hours getting some much needed sleep. AND since the ferry was late we actually did get off the ship until closer to 6am.
But since we had a reservation we continued on to the RV park and pulled into our site. We tried to be as quiet as possible to not wake the other guests.
RV Park: Oceanside RV Park
Location: Haines, Alaska
Site: 11 (oceanfront)
Cost: $68.57
Services: FHU
Comments: A small and charming RV Park with fantastic views and a lovely clubhouse. Sites are close together but many are ocean front and you are walking distance (a very short distance) to town.
The tent sites have great views too!
The Clubhouse is the only place for their WiFi and it has showers, restrooms, and a nice laundry facility. Plus it has a nice lounge area for just hanging out along with outdoor sitting areas.
Haines is about a hundred meters away from the RV Park with The Hammer Museum, two grocery stores, a few restaurants, and other shops. The Lighthouse Restaurant is literally next door to the RV park.
We saw more and more eagles as we sat outside and viewed the Cove. Haines is known as the “Valley of the Eagles” with the eagle population rising to over 3,500 in October through December.
The smaller cruise ships come into Haines which can make the small, quaint town suddenly burst with people but it is short lived. Most of the bigger cruise ships head on to Skagway. It was a lovely view to sit behind our RV and watch Portage Cove and all the activities.
We loved Haines and certainly didn’t spend as much time there was we would have liked. But we did get a chance to resupply after our ferry journey because we had to turn off our propane which meant nothing in the fridge/freezer. We loaded up on groceries, did a bunch of laundry, enjoyed the views, and loved the town!
