The “Going to the Sun” road is the main route through Glacier National Park and the most popular route for tourists. It is an approximately 52-mile road running east and west that tourists can drive in their own personal vehicle or in one of the popular Red Jammer tour cars. There is also a free shuttle allowing tourists various stopping points along the way. But, we think the best way to see the beauty of the mountains is in a sports car convertible or a motorcycle! Since we don’t have a convertible we opted for the motorcycle!! Off we go!
We departed from Apgar and headed east up to Logan Pass to the Continental Divide.
Logan Pass is the highest point along the road at just over 6,600′. The snow level was much lower than normal but the views were still spectacular. The Visitor’s Center parking area gets quite full starting early in the morning but luckily there’s always plenty of space for a motorcycle. The pass has a number of trail heads, a visitors center, and the nearby mountain goat area.
We continued off east over the pass towards Saint Mary Lake and the east entrance to the park. A beautiful drive and well worth it. Next time will be lots of hiking!
