We love long bike rides, especially where there is a trail or a path to ride in nature as opposed to riding on a city street or alongside traffic. One of our favorite bike rides is the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes Bike Path which is a 72-mile paved path in the Idaho Panhandle. It rates up there at the top like the Route of the Hiawatha Bike Path that we enjoy so much.
We drive to the Bullhead Run Trailhead and park and take the bikes and starting riding. There are public restrooms and picnic tables along the path for easy access and great places to stop and take a break. We usually pack a picnic lunch and take plenty of water and suntan lotion as the summer sun can be intense.
The part of the trail we normally ride parallels the Coeur d’Alene River & Chain Lakes so you have some pretty terrific scenery along the way. You can stop and take a dip in the river anytime if you are so inclined. And we are almost always treated to a glimpse of moose along the way playing in the water. That is always fun to see.
