Whenever we are in the general vicinity of Julian we love to go spend the day there. I started going to Julian in the late 70’s (and Santa Ysabel) and fell in love with the atmosphere and the apple products! Yummy!
So while visiting Anza Borrego State Park heading to Julian only makes sense. We packed up the motorcycle and headed up the windy road which is perfect on a bike. Never mind the snow on the side of the road or the chill in the area or the dark clouds looming over us we decided to keep going and make the most of it.
We knew a cup of coffee and a piece of Mom’s apple pie was waiting for us at the end of the journey and would warm up our innards!
We also wanted to check out Marshal South’s grave which we had read was located at Pioneer Cemetery in Julian. He frequented Julian and was rumored to have a girlfriend here too! After searching the entire cemetery we did find it!
Back to town to check out more bakeries, stores, and just do a bit of relaxing before taking the long windy road back to Anza Borrego! A wonderful day, a wonderful ride, but we were glad to get back home and warm up (boondocking at Clark Dry Lake)!
