While staying at River Island State Park along the Colorado River in Parker, Arizona we decided to check out a few of the other state parks in the area.
Welcome to Cattail Cove State Park. This is a nice, small state park which sits along Hwy 95 between Parker and Lake Havasu City and right on the Colorado River. It is north of Parker dam so the river is a bit wider in this area than south of the dam where Buckskin Mountain and River Island State Parks are located. We drove through the campground to get a feel for the park. It offers 61 sites and has a beach and a boat ramp. It seemed a bit small and cramped and the sites seemed more tightly packed than the other state parks in the area (Buckskin Mountain, River Island, and Lake Havasu City State Park). While we always enjoy state parks and would rather stay in a state park than a RV Park we didn’t enjoy this one as much as the others. I guess you shouldn’t knock things until you have tried them. Like I said we just went there to check it out and didn’t stay the night so it might be a perfectly fine park.
And while we were there we decided to check out Sandpoint Marina and RV Park. It is located right by Cattail Cove State Park and basically off the same road. We had read some wonderful reviews about this place and knew they had waterfront sites. Well, sorry to say, it was your typical RV park with RVs crammed in right next to each other. Again, it might be a wonderful place with wonderful people but it is not our type of camping.
