Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area, operated by Riverside County, sits at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains in the Coachella Valley just a few miles from the city center of La Quinta. The lake is a non-swimming lake but offers fishing. There is a swimming pool there which is not filled during the winter.
It has a lovely campground with about 71 sites which sits along the shores of the lake with dirt, level sites, some with hookups and some dry camping. All sites looked long enough to accomodate big rigs but there could be a few sites with issues of width for slides depending on any trees.
There is quite a large Day Use area prior to entering the campground where there is plenty of parking, beach area, and the pool. There are lovely views of the lake and mountains from most of the park.
Our personal preference was for sites 68, 69, or 70 (all dry camping) or the primitive waterfront sites.
We like Lake Cahuilla and have stayed there several times. Nice area to ride bikes and good hiking nearby. If you are a member of Passport America they give the 50% discount Mon-Weds.
