Rockhouse Trail – Borrego Springs, California

Rockhouse Trail Boondocking
A view of a not so crowded Rockhouse Trail boondocking area

The area east of Peg Leg and north of S22 was taken over by Anza Borrego State Park in July 2015 which effectively means no  more boondocking in that area. But a small portion off Rockhouse Trail is still available.

We watched the area for a few weeks after camping just off S22 by the road and also at the State Park campground. The Rockhouse Trail area was crowded, very crowded. But towards the end of February it started to clear out so off we went.

We enjoyed the area even though our view was of other rigs instead of our usual desert landscape. We also enjoyed the usual 4WD drives and hiking that is so abundant in the area. Gotta love this place!

Unfortunately, we were saddened to hear that Marshall South’s son, Rider South, died just a few weeks ago, at the age of 82. He and his sister had led a hike up Ghost Mountain in Anza Borrego State Park just a few years earlier.

Adios Borrego!
