Lake Pleasant is a lovely regional park operated by Maricopa County in the northwest of Phoenix. The lake is a fair size and is used for boating, fishing, hiking, scuba diving, swimming, and camping. The lake is usually at maximum capacity around March and at it’s lowest capacity in August. Due to the recent drought in the area the lake level can still be low but we love viewing water when in the desert as it has such a cooling and refreshing feel on hot days.
Lake Pleasant regional Park has two main camping areas, Desert Tortoise Campground which has tent sites, dry camp sites, and a few hookup sites. Roadrunner Campground has all hookup sites and is probably better suited for big rigs yet a few sites at Desert Tortoise would fit big rigs. Both campgrounds have sites near the water and many with water views. Site 20 at Roadrunner is our favorite and what we considered the most level of the waterfront sites and with the best view.
The below photos of campsites are all from the Roadrunner Campground.
We always enjoy the sunsets at Lake Pleasant. You’ve been hitting up a few of our favorite spots. I love seeing the saguaro’s bloom.
A beautiful place. We really enjoy all of the Maricopa County parks. For being in a such a large metropolitan area they sure have done a nice job with their campgrounds!
