Welcome to Government Wash, a free (after you have entered the Recreation Area) boondocking area at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Our phone GPS referred to it as G-O-V-T Washington so call it what you want, ha, ha….. It is a lovely area which is close to Henderson for ease of shopping and fuel but it can also be crowded at times. We arrived mid week and managed to snag a site with lovely views and peace and quiet.
Here’s a look at some of the other sites around Government Wash. As you enter Government Wash, after the unhook area where the restroom is, there are two roads. The road to the right leads to sites directly along both sides of the road. The road to the left leads to several branches of roads with miscellaneous sites all over. The roads closer to the water become a bit more bumpy and rough.
Government Wash offers lake views from most sites and nice areas to walk around and explore. Even though the lake levels are low you can still hike down to the shore. The vistas are stunning here.
