From McCall, Idaho we headed north on Highway 55 to Highway 95 and continued on north. The road parallels the Little Salmon River to Riggins where it joins up with the Salmon River. We like to stop along the highway at a little rest area along the Salmon River just north of Riggins for a break, eat lunch, and when the weather is a wee bit warmer we can watch the rafters. We didn’t see any today. We drove on over White Bird Hill Summit and through the agricultural fields and on to Plummer.
Our plan was to stay at the Soaring Hawk RV Resort in Plummer which is only a few miles west of Heyburn State Park and the trailhead for the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. The turn off for the RV resort was easy to spot but when we turned off the main road we THOUGHT we had taken the wrong turn. We headed straight into a piece of land full of junk and then the narrow dirt road turned and headed on. We had no choice but to the follow the road about 100 yards or so and it turned again and soon we were up on a beautiful plateau. We made it to the right place!!!
As we drove in we were greeted with a beautiful lodge, a well maintained RV park, and fabulous scenery. AND we were greeted with a kind, generous owner who helped us check in. We loved this place.
The Kolar Lodge sits prominently against a gorgeous backdrop of mountains and pine trees with views that go forever. The lodge can be used for events such as weddings, graduation parties, receptions, birthday parties, etc. Outside is a small stage and a large area which can be filled with picnic tables for bands and/or other events. The back deck has chairs for sitting and admiring the scenery including the Little Plummer Creek down below. The resort offers a laundry facility, WiFi, and propane fill.
Inside the lodge is the check-in desk and a number of sitting areas. It is a beautiful place with large windows for enjoying the scenery. A perfect place for an event or just a place to sit and read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee. What a great place for a party. It makes us want to get married again and through a big reception and where else to do it but an RV Park where all your friends can join you.

Comments: We absolutely loved this RV Park. Of course, we were one of the few motor homes there in early May and had the place to ourselves. We had great weather and could sit outside and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness. It might have been a completely different experience had the park been full. Our site was very wide and we had plenty of space. We backed up to the woods and the dog park which had it been busy it could have been a hectic location. Note – there are no picnic tables, no showers, and no wood fires but that didn’t stop us from loving the place.
The RV Resort offers 100 sites of various sizes all with electric and water all arranged in tiers,. The sites vary in length and width with pull-thrus and back-ins. Many offer outstanding views but just a warning that some sites may be very long but could be very narrow such that you may not have much, if any, room for sitting outside. Our first site was Horseshoe 74 which was long but so narrow that we asked to switch sites. The owner happily obliged and we pretty much had our pick of any other site. We choose site 67. Thank you for the terrific customer service.
The Bark Park was behind our site in the woods and had two fairly large fenced in areas with picnic tables in them.
The entrance to the RV resort is off Hwy 5 to the south (a one way road) and the exit is to the east (a one way road). On the way out is two dump stations for your use.
The resort offers a large wooded area which is beautifully maintained that you can meander through and enjoy the scenery and the wildlife. The entire area was beautiful and immaculate.
Heyburn State Park is just a few miles further east on Highway 5 and offers a small campground (for small rigs/tents), various trailheads, and access to the lakes.
The night sky at Soaring Hawk lit up every night we were there.
AND YES, we did see soaring hawks!!! All in all a gorgeous location and a terrific resort!!
