We departed Shelby and headed south hoping to make it to Dillon. The weather was OK but we hit areas with lots of smoke and dark skies somewhere south of Helena. We continued on through Butte and The Berkeley Pit which which also had a bit of a dark sky and on towards Dillon passing lots of great views of the Missouri River.
The skies cleared up as we approached Dillon and it turned out to be a lovely day but very hot. We made our way into town to Southside RV Park. We usually like to stay at Clark Lake Reservoir but due to the high heat we thought we might prefer some nice a/c with full hookups! Luckily they had sites available.
RV Park: Southside RV Park
Location: Dillon, Montana
Site: 10 (pull thru)
Cost: $50
Services: FHU
Comments: A nice, simple RV Park right off I-15 yet we could not hear much noise (OK so we did have the a/c running a bit). The RV Park is just a few blocks walk into town for dining, shopping, and amenities. And Sparky’s Garage Dillon is literally a 2 minute walk.
Blacktail Creek runs through the middle of the park and separates some of the sites. It is a lovely area offering some shade, peace and quiet, and there are even cabins to rent.
Sparky’s Garage Dillon offers burgers and barbecue, a variety of draft beers, and big TV screens for watching the game. And there is a truck outside with a dining table so you can eat in the back of it!
Southside offered us a nice alternative to dry camping during the summer heat!
