Great Falls KOA – Great Falls, Montana

We departed Taber, Alberta and headed towards the US border. On the way we passed over Chin Lakes which has a campground on the south shore at Chin Park. We need to stay there some day…some day. It seems we never do and we have been talking about it for years. The park is about 15 minutes south of Taber and has 12 campsites with both power and no power sites. No reservations are accepted and it looks like a lovely place to camp.

It was about another 45 minute drive to Coutts, Alberta at the border of the US at Sweet Water, Montana. We arrived there with a short line for non commercial vehicles. The commercial vehicle lines was quite long but we got through immigration relatively quickly.

We continued on to a rest area in Montana for a lunch break and while there we saw there was an open weigh station for free. So we decided to weigh ourselves, literally. First we weighed both the front and rear axles of our motorhome and we were well underweight. Then we each took turns on the scales to weigh ourselves!! Ha, ha….

And on to Great Falls in Montana where we crossed the Missouri River. Great Falls is named for a series of waterfalls on the upper Missouri River. There are 5 falls along a 10 mile segment of the river ranging from almost 7 feet tall to 87 feet tall.

The Great Falls KOA is located in the southeast part of the city just south of Malmstrom AFB. The KOA is called an “Oasis on the Prairie”.

RV Park: Great Falls KOA Holiday
Location: Great Falls, Montana
Site: 206 (pull-thru)
Cost: $81.01
Services: FHU
Comments: A lovely KOA with a new section which is perfect for big rigs and is more open such that you can receive satellite signals. The sites are long and wider than most KOAs we have been to and they are also staggered such that you aren’t directly next to your neighbor’s rig.

The older section of the RV park is a bit tighter and more shaded and sites are close together.

There are a few nice patio sites which include a swing, BBQ, table/chairs, covered deck with lights, and a campfire pit.

The park has quite a number of cabins of which many have terrific views over the country side from their rear deck.

The RV park is up high and has terrific views over the valleys and the mountains. It was still a bit smokey when we were there so you can’t quite see the mountains in the distance but it was still beautiful.

The RV Park is a KOA Holiday which means it has lots of activities for all. There were bike rentals, entertainment events, playgrounds, swimming pool, dog park, trails, corn hole, a kiddie train, free pancake breakfast every morning, and an ice cream shop.

The park even has a petting zoo and you can buy feed at the office and feed the animals!

Or you can just hang around and watch everyone!
