Yes, not only do we have an RV but now we also have a Pontoon boat. We love the Idaho summers, we love the lakes, we love swimming, and we love boating. So might as well just do it.
Seeing as all marinas in the area are packed full with multiple year long wait lists, we finally found a marina with an available slip about 20 minutes from our house. We took it. It is on Lake Pend Oreille, the largest lake in Idaho and one of the deepest. Our slip is in the quaint, charming, lovely town of Bayview along the southern edge of the lake.
Lake Pend Oreille is over 1,000 feet deep in places hence why the Navy uses the lake for underwater acoustic research. Yes, you will see test submarines around and about which always proves to be interesting. Due to the depth it means that the shoreline of the lake can be quite steep which limits the number of areas to anchor in to spend the day. But we have found a few beachs and small coves to idle away the afternoon.
The town of Bayview has a host of marinas, a few restaurants, a hotel, a small concessionaire, and a host of interesting events and people. One of the most interesting things about Bayview is its group of floathouses that are meticulously maintained and full of flowers during the summer. A charming place.
