We hadn’t had full hookups and WiFi in quite awhile and we had no plans to have any in the future so we thought a few nights in an RV park to do laundry and pay bills and to get caught up would do us a world of good. AND it did!
RV Park: Westwind RV and Golf Resort
Location: Yuma, Arizona (Fortuna Foothills)
Site: 322
Cost: $50
Services: FHU
Comments: A clean, gated RV park with lots of amenities (swimming pool, golf, billiards, laundry, shuffleboard, sand volleyball, etc.) next to I-8 with lots of noise and tight spaces. If you are a first time visitor you can get one night free if you stay 4 nights (the rate is then $37 a night for 4 nights). WiFi was great but was only free for the first 24 hours and then it was $5 for 3 days or $10 for a week. There is a separate area for those people with pets.
The RV park is mainly park models (i.e., mobile homes) but did have quite a number of empty spaces for future park models and/or RVs. We were led to our site after registration and directed into a site by employees in a golf cart. They took us the wrong direction on the street (to allow for a diagonal back-in) and therefore that meant they had to lead Norm down a street to have him back up and turn around. Then the tried to back him into the space into a narrow, narrow area with a concrete slab on one side (which could rub your tires – be careful) and a water spigot (about 12″ high and very hard to see) on the other side. You have to fit in between them. One of the employees stands over the water spigot to ensure you don’t hit it. It was quite funny and a bit bizarre. Here’s a few pictures of an empty site and then our site. You can see how the water spigot is right next to our tire with very little breathing room. Crazy design. And the sewer hookup is in front (towards the street) of the water spigot and almost directly under the motorhome. This means it has been run over a few times and was very difficult to attach the sewer hose and dump.
The park is full of amenities that we were too busy with other activities to utilize.
We have been to Yuma a number of times before and thought this time we would take a stroll to Los Algodones in Mexico for a day trip like many other RVers do for their dental work, optical needs, and/or pharmacy needs. We just went for lunch and margaritas! An easy over the border, a walk around all the vendors, lunch at El Paraiso and then back over the border. We left Los Algodones in early afternoon and got back into the US with only about a 3 minute wait at the border.
