When heading south through Nevada in the Las Vegas area we like to head through Lake Mead National Recreation Area to help bypass traffic and take in the fantastic scenery. Sometimes we stop and spend a few nights or a week and sometimes we just drive through. Beautiful scenery and no traffic!
And then we continued on over the Hoover Dam and down through Arizona via Wickieup and Wickenburg to Cave Creek Regional Park.
We have stayed at this park several times before and we quite enjoy the Maricopa County Regional Parks. The sites are always nicely maintained and most have nice site privacy and great views.

Comments: A lovely campground with great views and good hiking. On weekend mornings you can view 15-20 hot air balloons in the distance floating around the sky. Site 12 has excellent site privacy and fantastic desert views affording both sunrise and sunset spectacular skies.
Site 12 is next to a horse corral and is also a back-in and hasgreat site privacy and awesome views
Every Saturday and Sunday morning you can see the hot air balloons on the horizon, usually after an awesome sunrise. Dusk usually provides great sunsets too!
Historic Cave Creek is only a few minutes away with nice restaurants and shops and plenty of things to do.
The town of Carefree is located right next to Cave Creek so we headed on over to the Enchanted Pumpkin Garden which was cute, clever, and quite seasonal. It features Ray Villafane, the master pumpkin carver!
