From Geneva State Park we headed east on I-90 through Pennsylvania and on to New York following the shoreline of Lake Erie all the way to the outskirts of Buffalo. We had purchased an E-Z Pass for the toll roads and it sure made things a lot quicker and easier.
We then took some backroads east of Buffalo to Darien Center where we stayed at Darien Lakes State Park. Darien Lakes is a lovely state park sitting on 1,846 acres and a 12 acre lake pond. It is only a few miles from Six Flags Theme Park.
Campground: Darien Lakes State Park
Location: Darien Center, New York (about 25 miles east of Buffalo)
Site: 136 (back-in)
Cost: $28
Services: E (30 AMP)
Comments: A lovely state park with relatively easy access to Niagara Falls (one hour drive – covered in next post). We were there early in the season and basically had the entire campground to ourselves. There was a host in our loop and the other loop had a host. It was wonderful to have all that open space for just us!!
The campground has 2 large loops with 155 campsites of which 13 sites are non-electric. The rest of the sites are electric only with about half of them being 50AMP and the others 15/30 AMP. There are short sites, long sites, level sites, and unlevel sites. Something for everyone! There is also a dump station on site.
As the name implies there is a small lake by the campground along with several walking trails.
