Cheticamp Campground – Cape Breton Highlands National Park – Nova Scotia

We departed from Havre Boucher and drove over the Canso Causeway onto Cape Breton Island. We made it!!  Our first stop, the Cape Breton Island Visitor’s Center for a short break and to check things out. And then on we drove to the Cabot Trail and on into Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

The very first campground as you enter the park on the southwest side  is Cheticamp Campground where we camped for a few days. It is right next to the Visitor’s Center.

Campground: Cheticamp Campground
Location: Cheticamp, Nova Scotia (west side of national park at the south entrance by the Visitor’s Center)
Site: 85 (back-in)
Cost: $43.70 (CAD)
Services: FHU
Comments: A lovely campground at the start of Cape Breton Highlands National Park and 5 minutes from the town of Cheticamp. We encountered a few black flies but not bad.  Most of the campers were just there for an overnight but we stayed a few nights so we could sightsee during the days.

The campground has several tenting sites and oTentiks (Canada National Park cabins) with the Cheticamp river running next to the campground and a nice trail which runs parallel to the river.

Cheticamp is a charming town to the south of the campground just before entering the national park. It has a nice boardwalk along the water along with a variety of stores and restaurants.  Aucoin La Boulangerie is a bakery that gets quite a lot of customers and attention! Must be worth it but we didn’t try it…not on our diet I was told!!
