We travelled on the Marine Atlantic ferry with our RV and car from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. It is a day ferry and is about 6 to 8 hours depending on the weather. It can be rough seas and/or cancelled but everything worked out great. It was a terrific crossing!
We arrived at the ferry terminal 2 hours ahead of time as dictated. Our RV Park where we were staying was only about 5 minutes away so that worked fine. We checked in quickly and lined up with the other vehicles. We then had about an hour to roam around and vist the terminal building and meet some new friends!
We boarded about an hour ahead of time and had plenty of time to park, lock up the vehicles, explore the ship, and find our room.
We decided to book a deluxe cabin so we could rest and be comfortable during the voyage especially if there were rough seas and any delays. We had lots of time to explore the lounge areas, gift shop, and restaurants along with finding our room before departing.
We departed right on schedule. Our room was at the bow of the ship on the 8th floor so we had great views out our window of the departure along with the crossing.
We hung in our room for awhile, went downstairs for a meal, went outside a few times, and then back to the room for a nap/TV. It wasn’t long before we soon saw land and we arrived right on schedule!!
Great blog of your NFLD trip! Do you have a written itinerary of it?
Hi Emma! Thanks! We document our travels in the blog itself. The blog posts are written in chronological order.
If you are interested in NFLD then start with the ferry post that you commented on – http://www.thoseyoungguys.com/2019/07/07/marine-atlantic-ferry-nova-scotia-to-newfoundland/ – and then scroll to the bottom and select “Next Post”. That will take you to our next location. You can continue doing that for our travels throughout NFLD.
Hope that helps!!
Have a great trip and thanks for the comment!
