We departed PEI and drove over the Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick. Before driving over the bride we stopped to pay the toll which is only paid when you exit off the island. It was $67 (CAD) for our 4 axles (Motorhome and tow vehicle).
We drove on north along the coast of New Brunswick about 90 miles or so before entering the Kouchibouguac National Park. The Visitor Center is located near the entrance. From there it is almost another 9 miles to the South Kouchibouguac Campground where we were staying There is another campground to the north of the Kouchibouguac River which is not far from our campground as the crow flies but a good 15 miles by car.
Campground: South Kouchibouguac Campground
Location: East coast of New Brunswick on the Northumberland coast (about 60 miles north of Moncton)
Site: 280 (back in)
Cost: $38.20
Services: FHU
Comments: A very nice campground with lots of sites with some along the Kouchibouguac River. There are serviced and unserviced sites. The campground check-in is at the campground itself (not at the Visitor Center) almost a mile from the camping loops depending on where you site it. They do have WiFi (as do most of the Parks Canada campgrounds we stayed in) but do not advertise it nor tell you about it. BUT you have to ask for the passwords at the check-in and you need one per device per 24 hours. Remember to do this when you check-in otherwise it’s a hike back to check-in. Otherwise it was a lovely campground even if it was a bit chilly, rainy, and windy for 1 July – Canada Day.
We celebrated Canada Day while at the National Park and attended the celebration that Parks Canada was offering.
We then walked the boardwalk at Kelly’s Beach. Needless to say, no one was in swimming due to the cold and wind. Happy Canada Day!
