We continued along Trans Canada Highway from Moose Jaw in to the eastern part of Alberta to the town of Oyen. The wind started blowing and the sky started to get dark. We didn’t get any actual rain drops that afternoon but we certainly battled the wind!! But, as usual, along the way we had beautiful prairie scenery!
We battled the wind all the way to Oyen and decided to stop along the main highway at the Saokki Campground. You actually check-in for the campground at the hotel next door called Canalta. It was a fast, easy check-in and a lovely campground.
Campground: Saokki Campground
Location: Oyen, Alberta
Site: 34 (pull-thru)
Cost: $44.10 (CAD)
Services: FHU
Comments: A lovely campground right off the main highway with full hookups, easy access to the town of Oyen, and close proximity to a variety of eating establishments. An A&W is on the other side of the hotel (next to a gas station) and the Barn Pub and Grille (excellent reviews and a cozy inside) is just at the corner. The hotel reception staff was fast and efficient and friendly and the campground was neat and clean. We did not hear any highway noise at night as the traffic tends to die down.
The campground has multiple rows of sites, a laundry building, restrooms, and showers.
The tow of Oyen is just a few miles to the south and the surrounding countryside is beautiful.
