Purtis Creek is a 355-acre fishing lake southwest of Dallas where you can also swim, paddle, boat, hike, bike, camp, and just enjoy the area. There are 59 campsites with water and electricity along with some tent sites and walk in primitive sites. There is a dump station on site.

We departed Paul B. Johnson State Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and headed through Jackson and Vicksburg wishing we had time to stop and explore both of those areas. Soon we were crossing the Mighty Mississippi River which is a monumental landmark denoting we are have left the eastern United States.

We departed from the Tallahassee area and drove west through the Florida panhandle and passed into Central Time zone along the Apalachicola River. On we went heading west and left Florida (sob, sob….) and entered into Alabama. We spent over a month in Florida and we had a terrific time.

Silver Springs State Park is known for its blue, crystal clear water and glass bottom boats. The area used to be a tourist attraction called Silver Springs which started in the 1870’s. The state took over operations of the area in 2013 and along with the acquired state land nearby
